Tennis: Marius Copil qualifies for second round of Australian Open

Romanian tennis player Marius Copil on Tuesday, in Melbourne, qualified for the second round of the Australian Open tennis tournament, the first Grand Slam of the year, after defeating Spaniard Pablo Andujar, in three sets, 6-2, 6-2, 7-5.

Copil has already secured thus a cheque worth 50,000 Australian dollars and 70 ATP points, following in the second round to meet the holder of the title at stake, Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka (Seed No.4 in Melbourne). The world's No. 4 on Tuesday defeated Turk Marsel Ilhan (ATP's 100), 6-1, 6-4, 6-2, in the inaugural round of this competition.

On the single occasion when they met on the field, back in 2013, Wawrinka was the one to defeat Copil, 6-4, 6-4, in the first round of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Madrid, then losing to Rafael Nadal (2-4, 4-6) in the final. AGERPRES
