President Klaus Iohannis declared on Tuesday at the ceremony to decorate three Holocaust survivors that through all his endeavors he will seek to defend Holocaust victims' memory, mentioning that in the coming years he wishes that, in parallel with commemorating the victims of this phenomenon, those who proved human solidarity during the Second World War be known as well.

"Through all it has done in the past decade regarding the commemoration and knowledge of the Holocaust, the Romanian state has learned the lessons of its past. It has fully understood to act against forgetfulness and all forms of intolerance, discrimination, racism, anti-Semitism and xenophobia. A nation can have no future without respecting and knowing its past. The Romanian state, through its institutions, will continue the concrete efforts to preserve the memory of the Holocaust. Educational measures in the domain may be thought out, but also symbolic measures, such as establishing or maintaining memorial spaces," said Iohannis, at the ceremony held to decorate three Holocaust survivors, namely Gabriela Bone, Viora Braun and Susana Diamantstein.
