Justice Minister Cazanciuc: CVM Report, the best so far

Minister of Justice, Robert Cazanciuc, on Wednesday said about the CVM [Cooperation and Verification Mechanism] Report, as published earlier in the same day, that it was "the best so far", marking a series of "uncontestable progresses" in key areas such as the fight against corruption and the implementation of the new Codes.

'Romania saw a better report today than in 2014, with this being the best assessment so far. It is also for the second year consecutively when the European Commission finds that important progresses were made in numerous areas and also that the strong positive trend was maintained. Important and well-documented appreciations were also made about the activity of the Ministry of Justice and the judicial system as a whole, about the activity of such key institutions holding responsibilities in fighting corruption as the High Court, the DNA [National Anti-corruption Directorate], ANI [National Agency for Integrity]. The report also mentioned the spirit of constructive cooperation between the Romanian authorities and the European Commission and also the consensus reached in supporting reform,' said Cazanciuc.

He showed that the report marked a series of 'uncontestable' progresses, such as the coming into force of the Criminal Codes, and also the effort made by the judiciary to 'smoothly' adapt to the new dispositions and the allotment of human and financial resources necessary in implementing the Codes.
