President Iohannis: We want to develop relations with China by diversifying economic cooperation, broadening inter-human ties

President Klaus Iohannis said on Thursday that he wants relations with China to develop by the further diversification of economic cooperation and the broadening inter-human ties, as he holds that this way Romania will also contribute to the achievement of the goals of the EU-China 2020 Strategic Agenda for Cooperation.

"Romania's goal of adding momentum and diversifying its relations with countries in the Asia ? Pacific region answers its economic interests, meets its desire to reap benefits from co-working with the components of one of the most important growth engines of the world economy. We want to further develop relations with China overall, diversifying cooperation and broadening inter-human ties. We approach this goal in a comprehensive, realistic and long-term manner so as to meet our mutual interests. We consider that this way we will also contribute to the achievement of the goals of the EU-China 2020 Strategic Agenda for Cooperation," Iohannis told the annual meeting with the heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Romania.

He also highlighted the "special interest" Bucharest has in developing relations with Central Asian states, and plans to strengthen political dialogue and enhance energy and economic cooperation.

"Central Asia can play a key role in the diversification of Europe's hydrocarbon supply sources. We also want to facilitate trade flows in and out of Europe, by creating a freight corridor between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, linking Central Asia to Europe and running further eastwards, towards China. The Port of Constanta, the Danube corridor are major advantages Romania will use in this endeavor," said the Romanian head of state.
