Serbia gets New Symphonic Orchestra

BELGRADE- The New Symphonic Orchestra will hld its inaugural concert at the Kolarac Foundation in Belgrade, conducted by its founder, world renowned specialist in Baroque music, conductor and cellist Predrag Gosta.

"The newly formed orchestra will play operas and symphonic music, and it will hold concerts once a month on average. I am overjoyed about the orchestra's creation and all my efforts are focused on the desire to make it a respectable music institution in this part of Europe and beyond," said Gosta, who aws born in Belgrade and got his music education in the UK and US.

Gosta has had a prominent international career, as he has condected famous orchestras around the world, like the National Philharmonic in Washington, Russian National Orchestra in Moscow, Hermitage Orchestra, State Capella Glinka in St Petersburg and the London Symphony Orchestra, with whom he recorded a CD as well.

The audition for the orchestra was organized by the New Belgrade Opera in October and November last year. The orchestra is comprised mostly of young musicians, those that have shown through their talent that they have the most potential on their instrument.

The orchestra was supported by other institutions as well, including the Belgrade Philharmonic, which borrowed its percussions for the event on Saturday, as well as the US foundation Makris, which helped the concert financially.

The programme for the concert includes pieces by Tchaikovsky, Glinka, Sibelius, Grieg, Bartok and US composer Andreas Makris, whose works will be performed in Serbia for the first.
