Athens bourse ends roller-coaster day on a high
Volatility was the name of the game for another day on the Athens bourse, which closed on Wednesday with gains of less than 1 percent for the benchmark having ranged from gains of 2.77 percent to losses of 2.63 percent, while the turnover level clearly indicated that the Greek market is back on the radar of investors, for better or worse.
The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 848.04 points, rising 0.89 percent from Tuesday?s 840.57 points.
The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 index expanded 1.64 percent to end at 257.93 points.
Banks again propped up the benchmark, with their index growing 9.26 percent, as Piraeus Bank added 20.80 percent and Eurobank rose 10.74 percent. Aegean Airlines lost 3.47 percent and PPC declined 3.34 percent.
In total 63 stocks enjoyed gains, 48 reported losses and 20 ended unchanged. Turnover came to 202.7 million euros, down from Tuesday?s 215.4 million.
