Declaration on Sava River protection signed
NOVI SAD - Eighteen institutions from four countries that manage the areas along the Sava River signed the Sava Parks network declaration for boosting the protection of the river and its floodplains, reads a statement issued by the state-owned enterprise Vojvodinasume, one of the signatories of the agreement.
Sava Parks is a network of institutions in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia, which manage the protected areas along the Sava River from its source to the confluence with the Danube River, reads the statement.
"By signing the declaration (on February 2), all institutions have assumed the responsibility to preserve the biological diversification of the protected areas along the Sava River," the statement reads.
The signatories undertook to work on strengthening and protection of Europe's natural resources and cultural heritage, all in line with sustainable development and the EU laws relating to environmental protection.
The Sava Parks declaration paves the way to exchange of knowledge and skills necessary for promotion and maintenance of favorable natural conditions along the Sava River, says the statement.
Due to climate change, it is also necessary to step up flood control along the basin, reads the statement.
