'Monument to Michael Jackson' awarded in Santa Barbara

BELGRADE - "Monument to Michael Jackson", a movie by Serbian director and screenwriter Darko Lungulov, got the best Eastern European Film Award at 30th Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

The movie was in the category comprising Eastern European movies, this being its American debut.

Lungulov received the award from festival director Roger Durling. As tickets for the movie were in high demand, it was screened once more in a packed cinema, four times in total.

"Monument to Michael Jackson" will be screened one more time over the next weekend as part of the program "Winners of the Festival".

When receiving the award, Lungulov said that it was a great honor that his movie was awarded at a festival that successfully brings together famous and unknown authors, offering an excellent program to educated audiences.

"Monument to Michael Jackson" tells a story about a dreamer from a small town who is trying to keep the love of his life in a very unusual way. The main roles were entrusted to Boris Milivojevic, Natasa Tapuskovic, Dragan Bjelogrlic, Branislav Trifunovic, Mirjana Karanovic and Danijel Nikolic.

The film premiered at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival on July 8, 2014. He got the "Golden Mimosa" Grand Prix at the Montenegro Film Festival in Herceg Novi on August 2.

"Monument to Michael Jackson" also earned the "Honorable Mention of the Jury" at the Let's CEE Film Festival in Vienna. It premiered in Serbia at the Nis Festival of Film Achievements on August 24.
