Over BGN 122 M in Funding Provided for Bulgarian Stock Breeders
The Ministry of Agriculture and Foods is set on providing more funds for stock breeders, without requirements on the number of animals or what their kind should be, as announced in a press release on Tuesday.
The statement was m?de by Minister Desislava Taneva at the sitting of the Advisory Council on Stock Breeding.
''Higher funding will be received by famrers, breeding cows, sheep and goats under the appointed selection control mechanisms,'' she added.'' Direct payments through the integrated support programs will accumulate to BGN 122 M.''
Director of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency Plamen Mollov further assured stock breeders that vaccinations against bluetongue desease will be launched on March 1 along the southern parts of Bulgaria. He added that the process will last no more than 20 days, with a second wave of vaccinations to begin in April this year.
The information was released a week after a series of farmer protests regarding lack of information on the issue and on account of the low farm-gate milk prices.
Additionally, an announcement was made that the National Fund Agriculture will assist the sector with BGN 84 M. More details can be accessed on the page of Agriculture Ministry here.
