Ukraine's Inflation to Reach 26% in 2015 - PM

Inflation in Ukraine is currently forecast at 26% for this year, according to the country's Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

His statement comes against the backdrop of Kiev's effort to avoid bankruptcy through international assistance and to keep its economy afloat as the latter is suffering from the conflict with Russia.

"Financial support is needed for us to survive, to stabilize the situation and to develop," RIA Novosti quotes him as saying.

Estimates cited by Yatsenyuk surpass previous forecasts for this year, with the cabinet and the central bank in Kiev having predicted 13.1% and 17.2%, respectively.

Last year, consumer prices in Ukraine rose by 24.9% (compared to 0.5% the year before), which was the highest rate since 2000. Back then inflation was at 25.% percent, a level unknown even in the years of the global financial crisis.
