Could Lampedusa become ISIS' entry point to Europe?

At a time when Jihadists are burning and beheading people, or cutting off women’s hands off because they used cellphones, the nightmare of a new round of mass executions surfaced after 35 Egyptian Coptic farmers were kidnapped in Libya in retribution for Egypt’s air raids.

 

The Egyptian government, on its part, asked the UN to ratify an international operation that will eliminate the ISIS threat. All this takes place amid growing fears that ISIS plans to infiltrate Europe through Libya. Specifically, there is a turmoil in Italy as officials fear that jihadists will take advantage of the Lampedusa immigration passage to infiltrate southern Europe and strike on Italian soil.

 

According to La Republic, immigration centers are full and Italian officials seek a solution which will not set the lives of immigrants in danger. However, according to the coast guard, when coast guard men approached Libyan authorities to repel immigrants, they were faced with men armed with AK-47 rifles.
