Bulgarian Movie Ombre Hits Cinemas Today
Ombre is a Balkan western, or actually an ''eastern'' as the cast and crew often refer to it.
Based on the novel by Emil Tonev, the plot revolves around a modern-day interpretation of legendary productions like Once Upon a Time in the West (1968).
''The story will always be interesting, combining the western and the ''eastern'' so to say,'' said actor Valeri Yordanov.
The protagonist Angel, played by Yordanov, meets a seductive local prostitute in a small Bulgarian town.
Irritating the local smuggler gang, Angel barely escapes death and then needs to go hiding in the nearby mountain.
Adventures, mixed with true emotional dilemmas are entwined to create a moving experience for the viewers.
Valeri Yordanov is well-known to the Bulgarian audience through his moving cinema and theater performances on the local stage.
He was also part of the cast of warmly received by both critics and audience Ketsove/ Sneakers (2011). The movie was the Bulgarian submission for the Oscar nominations in 2013, but did not make it to the final round.
Ombre is the directoral debut of the sadly deceased Zahari Paunov received positive critical acclaim at the prestigious Bulgarian film festival Golden Rose. The cast of the movie received the award for overall performance in October 2014.
