SDS: Online poll on Nikolic dismissal
BELGRADE - The Social Democratic Party (SDS) launched on Friday an online poll asking the respondents if they would support a parliamentary procedure to dismiss Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic who, as they claim, violated the Constitution by publicly putting pressure on Serbia's war crimes prosecutor Vladimir Vukcevic.
"The poll will be active for the next 30 days, after which we will deliberate on the democratic means we will use to continue to defend the rule of law," the release states.
The parliamentary group of SDS, Together for Serbia and the Greens of Serbia filed a motion to dismiss Nikolic, which, according to the release, was signed by all opposition parliamentary groups.
In order to start the procedure, the motion needs to be put forward by a minimum of one third of MPs in the Serbian parliament. The fact that the motion was supported only by opposition parties shows that Nikolic's leaving the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and claiming to be the president of all citizens is hypocrisy, seeing that the party is behind him even when he is publicly violating the Constitution, the release states.
