Andrei Pavel, the captain of Romania's Davis Cup tennis team said Tuesday the team would be honoured to be cheered on by tennis player Simona Halep, currently number three in the world's professional ranking, and by Romania's President Klaus Iohannis, an amateur tennis player himself, in their meet with Israel.

Asked whether he invites Halep and Iohannis to the fixture to cheer for Romania's team, Pavel said, 'Certainly so. My invitation is to everyone. We would be honoured to see Simona. We would be incredibly honoured to have President Iohannis in attendance, especially because the fixture is played in Sibiu, the city where he was a mayor. We are happy to be back in Sibiu, and we want to thank the city for helping us play another game here, the third so far.'

Romania's team for the meet with Israel in the first round of the Europe/Africa Davis Cup Zone Group, scheduled for March 6-8 in Sibiu, is made up of Adrian Ungur, Marius Copil, Horia Tecau and Florin Mergea, with Andrei Pavel the captain.

The captain and his players said before the first official training session on Tuesday that they are in shape and optimistic about their match versus Israel. AGERPRES
