Julius Caesar opera to open at the Athens Concert Hall
The Athens Concert Hall presents, in collaboration with the Athens Conservatory & the Athens Conservatory Drama School, Julius Caesar, the first major opera by Philippos Tsalahouris.
A particularly interesting feature of the work is the replacement of the conventional orchestral accompaniment by the sounds of the church organ, combined with an ensemble of two pianos and percussion. The libretto, based on Shakespeare's work of the same name, is by Dionysis Kapsalis.
Philippos Tsalahouris was born in Africa in 1969 and was raised in Athens, Greece. Works of his, chamber music, chorals, songs, cinema and theatre music, have been performed in Greece, Moscow and Budapest.
