Dacic: Serbia appreciates UNOPS support
BELGRADE - Serbia appreciates highly the work of of the UN Office for Project Service (UNOPS), Serbia's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic has said and thanked UNOPS Executive Director Grete Faremo for support.
The total value of UNOPS projects in Serbia since 2010 is EUR 65 million, he said at a reception at the Belgrade City Hall on Monday.
Projects worth EUR 25 million and meant to fix the damage caused by the floods are being realised through UNOPS, and the largest donors are the EU IPA, Norway, Canada, the UK, Switzerland and France, he noted.
"Serbia is aware of the importance of UNOPS's role, which is used to complete important infrastructure projects, as well as activities meant to strengthen sustainable development," Dacic stated.
Serbia appreciated in particular the work UNOPS has done in southeastern and southwestern Serbia, which has helped integrate local minorities and cooperation between the local and central governemnts in that area, he pointed out.
Faremo said she was pleased the cooperation with the Serbian government would continue, and that she was proud for the support coming from the EU and other donors, adding that it was a win-win situation, especially for the people who needed the help.
