Landslides add to heavy snow to cause more damage in Serbia
BELGRADE - Adding to a host of problems caused by heavy snow that, which have made it impossible to reach a lot of homes in various parts of central, western and southern Serbia, landslides have began moving in the areas of the towns of Ljig, Lebane, Kursumlija and Trstenik.
The landslides triggered by heavy rain and snow caused declaring an emergency in 17 of the 26 local communities in the region of Ljig, Dragan Lazarevic, president of the municipality, told Tanjug.
In Kursumlija, emergency was declared in 11 local communities, the roads are being cleared of snow, and a landslide in the center of the municipality has been temporarily repaired.
In the center of Lebane, landslides completely destroyed a house and put about 30 residential buildings in danger. According to unofficial estimates, the damage done is about RSD 30 million (EUR 1 = RSD 120).
Landslides caused closing down eight local roads, and new landslides are appearing in Trstenik every day, Miroslav Aleksic, president of the municipality, told Tanjug.
