UN medals for Serbian 'blue helmets'

BELGRADE - Members of the Serbian defense ministry and armed forces engaged in the UN peacekeeping mission in Cyprus were granted the UN medals for their excellent service, the Serbian ministry of defense issued a release on Wednesday.

At the ceremony held at Camp General Stefanik in Famagusta, the medals were awarded to 25 members of the Serbian peacekeeping forces, as well as members of the Slovak, Hungarian and Ukrainian contingent.

The medals were delivered to members of the peacekeeping forces by Chief of the Cyprus mission Lisa Buttenheim.

There are currently 45 Serbian peacekeepers in Cyprus. Other members of the Serbian contingent were awarded the UN medals at the winter ceremony at the UN buffer zone in Nicosia in late February.

Aside from the UN medals, three members of the Serbian contingent also received acknowledgments from the Force Commander General Kristin Lund for extraordinary efforts and results in exercising their duties.
