CoE Human Rights Commissioner visits Serbia

BELGRADE - Council of Europe (CoE) Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muiznieks will arrive on a four-day visit to Serbia on Monday in order to assess the situation in the field of human rights.

Muiznieks is scheduled to confer with Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajic, Minister of Justice Nikola Selakovic, MPs and other high officials.

The focus of the visit will be on transitional justice, fight against discrimination and freedom of the press.

The commissioner will also meet with representatives of the media, civil society and international community in Serbia.

Muiznieks will visit certain institutions housing displaced persons and disabled people.

After the visit, the commissioner will draft a detailed report on the condition of human rights in Serbia, which will be officially presented in two months.
