Montenegro Pays For Serbian Embassy Makoever

The Montenegrin government plans to set aside about 370,000 euro to reconstruct the new Serbian embassy in Podgorica in line with an agreement between the countries last year.

Since 2006, the Serbian embassy has been using another building in Podgorica as a temporary solution.

Cash from the national budget reserves will be used to renovate the building in the centre of Podgorica, which is now in poor shape. The government is expected to adopt the proposal next week.

Last April, the governments of Serbia and Montenegro signed an agreement on providing premises  for each others' diplomats on a reciprocal basis.

New facilities had to be found for the Montenegrin embassy in Serbia in 2013 after Villa Crnogorka, the old Montenegrin embassy and residence in Belgrade, was returned to Princess Jelisaveta and Prince Aleksandar Karadjordjevic. The building had once been in the possession of the Yugoslav royals and was confiscated after the Communist takeover following the end of World War II.
