Serbia Mulling Reshuffle to Speed up Reforms
Milivoje Mihajlovic, the head of the Serbian government's press office, on Monday said a reshuffle was expected in April or soon after.
He told Serbia's public broadcaster RTS on Tuesday that Aleksandar Vucic, the Prime Minister, intended to accelerate the process of economic and political stabilization either through a reshuffle or through some other mean of changing the course of the government's work.
The statement came a day after Vucic, also leader of Serbia's main governing Serbian Progressive Party, SNS, outlined four possible scenarios for a reshuffle.
"One is a change of forces within the [ruling] coalition, the second is to make significant changes within the SNS, the third involves a change at the helm of the government and the fourth is not to make any changes until December, in order to wait for the provincial and local elections," Vucic explained after a meeting of the Progressive Party's presidency.
Vucic said he had proof that "tycoon and mafia lobbies" were resisting the changes being made in Serbia, mentioning the Zemun gang and the tycoon Miroslav Miskovic.
Twenty-six members of notorious criminal ring known as "Zemun Clan", were sentenced to a total of 465 years in jail in 2008 for 18 murders, three abductions, two terrorist attacks and other grave crimes.
Twelve members of the Zemun Clan were also sentenced to between eight and 40 years in jail for the murder in 2003 of the Prime Minister, Zoran Djindjic.
Miskovic, the owner of Delta Holding and one of the wealthiest men in Serbia, is currently on trial for abusing his official position and evading taxes.
Vucic stated that Miskovic's influence, both financially and in terms of his influence on the media, was more serious that he had anticipated....
