Muiznieks: Serbia makes progress in human rights protection

BELGRADE - Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic met on Thursday with Council of Europe (CoE) Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muiznieks, who underlined that Serbia has made considerable progress in the field of human rights protection.

Vucic and Muiznieks conferred on the implementation of the European standards in protection of national minorities and vulnerable groups, reads the statement issued by the Serbian government's press office.

Vucic said that all suggestions by the commissioner will help Serbia improve the position of vulnerable groups, noting that the government is working in cooperation with the EU on the strategy aimed at improving the position of Roma people.

Commissioner Muiznieks underlined that Serbia has made considerable progress in the area of human rights protection, and offered help of the CoE to promote the position of disabled people and their integration into the society, as well as the position of other vulnerable groups.

Muiznieks also commended the Serbian government for adopting a set of media laws, reads the statement.
