Romania's Halep advances to semi-finals of Indian Wells tournament

Romanian tennis player Simona Halep (No.3) on Wednesday advanced to the semi-finals of the women's singles event of the 5,381,235-US dollar WTA Indian Wells Masters, after defeating Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1.

Halep, 23, will be playing in the Indian Wells semi-finals for the second consecutive year. In 2014, she was defeated by Agnieszka Radwanska, 6-3, 6-4 in the semi-finals.

Halep has so far secured 220,230 US dollars and 390 WTA points. In the semis, she will meet the winner of the US Serena Williams (No.1) versus Swiss Timea Bacsinszky (27th seed) fixture. AGERPRES
