Countries in the region contribute to the enrichment of the Francophone cultural heritage and they can provide a significant experience with respect to the democratic transition, to the benefit of peace in the Francophone area, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Aurescu said on Friday, in his message on the International Day of Francophonie.

Aurescu brought to mind that Romania is an important member of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) that "always" acted to promote and achieve the Francophone objectives.

Moreover, the Minister said that the Romanian diplomacy fully trusts the capacity of the Francophonie to increasingly contribute to solving global problems, "alongside other international organizations, while capitalizing on its specific advantages and instruments, especially in the field of preventive diplomacy, mediation, measures designed to support the exit from the crisis and democratic transition."

The head of the Romanian diplomacy believes that by opening the Regional office of the OIF in Bucharest, in the new headquarter provided by the Romanian authorities, the Francophonie strengthens its position in the region.

"The celebration of Francophonie also gives us the opportunity to highlight the importance of its programmes for the youth. We encourage young people in Romania and in the region to assume the values of solidarity, multiligualism and diversity, which are at the core of Francophony, through using the French languages and a source of ideas and aspirations, as well as a privileged modality of communication and access to jobs," added Aurescu.
