Picture of Dorian Gray to premiere at National Theatre
BELGRADE - The ballet The Picture of Dorian Gray, inspired by the 1891 Oscar Wilde novel of the same title, will premiere at the National Theatre in Belgrade on March 30.
Through the story about Dorian Gray, the famous Irish writer criticises the hypocrisy and immorality of his immediate environment, and choreographer Vladimir Logunov says that the story is very current even today.
The music, selected by Aleksandra Paladin, includes compositions by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Michael Tippett, Krzysztof Penderecki and Gyorgy Ligeti.
This is the last premiere left over from last year, says National Theatre Director Dejan Savic, noting that ballets staged by the theatre in collaboration with Logunov have always been very successful.
The ballet The Picture of Dorian Gray best reflects what the National Theatre essentially is - a major, serious, classic and traditional institution with modern tendencies, says Savic.
