EC: EU is not changing its position on Kosovo

BRUSSELS - The position of the EU on the status of Kosovo has not changed and the question of its recognition is a question for EU member countries, spokesperson of the European Commission (EC) Catherine Ray said on Friday.

Replying to journalists' questions concerning the Thursday statement by High EU Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Federica Mogherini in Pristina who said that Serbia and Kosovo are sovereign countries and whether this entails a change in the EU stand, Ray said that Mogherini visited Pristina on Thursday where the main topic of the talks covered the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue which was restored in February, and added that the dialogue covers normalisation of relations between Belgrade and Pristina as well as between Serbia and Kosovo, and that both sides are committed to the dialogue. The question of recognition is the question for EU member countries, Ray said.

The official EU position is that it maintains a status neutral stand because five member countries do not recognise Kosovo as an independent country.
