Vucic: Serbian government will not be making surprise arrest

BELGRADE - The Serbian government will not be arresting anyone by surprise, Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said late Tuesday, adding that the duty of the state is to take care of every citizen, including Vojislav Seselj, an indictee of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) who is on provisional release in Serbia.

"We are waiting for decisions - first, let us see what Mr Seselj's health condition is," Vucic said, adding that the Serbian government is waiting to see the specific procedure following Monday's decision of the ICTY Appeals Chamber whereby the Trial Chamber was ordered to scrap the decision to grant Seselj provisional release.

Speaking at a press conference following a session of the presidency of the Serbian Progressive Party, of which he is the leader, Vucic said that the government will wait to see the conclusions of the Appeals Chamber and what it is expected to do. "You do remember that they packed him up and sent him to us," he said, adding that, by granting Seselj provisional release due to health problems, the ICTY has only caused problems to Serbia.
