Venizelos’ harsh letter to new Greek president

 

New Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos received a… harsh letter from PASOK president Evangelos Venizelos, asking the former about his presence during the beginning of proceedings of a Parliamentary audit committee on the national debt.

In his letter, PASOK’s president called on Pavlopoulos to ask Parliament President Zoi Konstantopoulou why she exposed the Office of the President to criticism. The reason why the president would have been exposed to criticism is that the Audit Committee is a clearly partisan committee, and the Greek president is not allowed, as per the Constitution, to appear “taking sides”, Venizelos charged.
