Jankovic through to Charleston third round

CHARLESTON - Serbia's Jelena Jankovic has reached the third round of the Charleston WTA tennis tournament by beating Tatjana Maria 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 6-1 in the second round late Tuesday CET.

Jankovic, the current world number 17, and Maria, who ranks 13th, played an extraordinary match that featured as many as 13 break points won.

In a bid to reach the quarter-finals, Jankovic will face the winner of the match between Danka Kovinic of Montenegro and Belinda Bencic of Switzerland.

The prize money of the Charleston tournament is USD 731,000.
