Gojkovic: Political, economic stability a goal

BELGRADE - In the first year of their term, the Serbian parliament and the government achieved much, and the goal is to make Serbia a politically and economically stable country over the next three years, Serbian Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic said on Sunday.

The parliament and the government have been excellent partners over the past year, with more than 200 laws passed, including many reform laws, she said.

"We have become the regional front-runners in progress towards EU membership," Gojkovic noted.

The parliament speaker said that she is satisfied with the work of the MPs and the parliamentary committees, and in particular, with the communication with the citizens and the civil sector.

Gojkovic said that she expects even more dynamic work and even greater commitment to passing laws - with over 30 on the agenda at this point - as well as development of regional cooperation and parliamentary diplomacy.

Responding to the opposition's accusations that it is unable to present its positions in a suitable manner, Gojkovic said that she would prefer to hear good proposals aimed at improving life in the country.
