Davenport: No new requirements for Serbia's EU integration

SUBOTICA - There are no new requirements for Serbia to move forward with its EU integration, and the opening of the frist chapters of the accession talks could be expected this year, Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport has said.

He stated he did not know what Serbia's Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic had in mind when he said the EU did not know what to do with Serbia, and that it was constantly setting new requirements for the country.

He quoted EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, who said during a recent visit to Belgrade that there were no new requirements for Serbia.

All the members of the EU want the talks to start with chapters 23 and 24, which refer to the rule of law, battle against corruption and discrimination and media freedom, he noted, adding that once the action plans for the chapters are completed, the European Commission would present them to the EU members along with its recommendations.

Davenport thinks that the two chapters will be opened sometime this year.
