Mihalkov becomes Belgrade's honorary citizen

BELGRADE - Russian film director Nikita Mihalkov received at the Belgrade City Hall on Friday the charter of the honorary citizen of Belgrade along with a message that he now had another home.

Belgrade Mayor Sinisa Mali and city assembly president Nikola Nikodijevic presented the charter, the first one to be given to an artist.

Mihalkov said he had so many feelings for Serbia and its people, that no award could replace that and he thanked for the honour.

Today, Belgrade immortalised its friendship with the great Russian artist, who has indebted not only the city, but Europe and the world as well, Mali pointed out.

"We wish to honour you, because you have done so much for Belgrade and the relations between Serbia and Russia," he stated.

The decision to award Mihalkov the charter was made by the city assembly on February 25 this year.
