BELGRADE -- Russian film director Nikita Mikhalkov received at the Belgrade City Hall on Friday the charter of the honorary citizen of Belgrade.
Belgrade Mayor Sinisa Mali and city assembly president Nikola Nikodijevic presented the charter, the first one to be given to an artist.
Mikhalkov said he had "so many feelings for Serbia and its people, that no award could replace that and he thanked for the honor," Tanjug reported.
Today, Belgrade immortalized its friendship with the great Russian artist, who has indebted not only the city, but Europe and the world as well, Mali pointed out.
"We wish to honor you, because you have done so much for Belgrade and the relations between Serbia and Russia," he stated.
The decision to award Mikhalkov, Peter Handke and Thorvald Stoltenberg the charter was made by the city assembly on February 25.
