Nikolic to Mikhalkov: Serbia will not forsake its friends
BELGRADE - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic met on Friday with renowned Russian filmmaker and Oscar winner Nikita Mikhalkov, and underlined that Serbia will never forsake its friends.
We know the value of friendship and we will never forsake our friends, no matter how difficult our position may be, said Nikolic, according to the presidential media relations office.
This year Serbia marks 200 years since the Takovo uprising against the Ottoman rule, and 70 years since the victory over fascism, the president said, adding that "in its efforts to live in peace and freedom, Serbia has always had the support of Russia."
Nikolic told Mikhalkov that Serbia greatly appreciates the fact that the world premiere of 'Sunstroke' was his gift to Belgrade.
Mikhalkov said that he is deeply grateful for the honor of being named an honorary citizen of Belgrade.
Your actions have proven that you are a true friend and a true Slav, Mikhalkov told the president of Serbia.
We are grateful to you because in these difficult times you decided to attend the military parade marking the 70th anniversary of the defeat of fascism, when Serbian soldiers will also march on Red Square, said Mikhalkov.
