SB: USD 75 million for public sector reform
BELGRADE - Public Sector Specialist in the World Bank (WB) Srdjan Svircev stated on Saturday that the bank would back public sector reform in Serbia through expert assistance and a USD 75 million loan which should be granted by the end of the year.
Svircev told Tanjug that before WB grants the loan, it needs to see whether the reform is going according to the plan, and added that the funds will not be available at once and would instead be paid in tranches.
The first steps toward the improvement of the work of public administration and more efficient provision of public sector services have already been drafted, he said.
Svircev explained that the EU should use IPA funds to draw up a series of functional analyses on grounds of which it would draft recommendations on improvement of public sector processes after which the negotiations with the government concerning the loan support of USD 75 million should be completed.
The public sector entails a lot of things and we have to choose true priorities that would produce results in the shortest possible term, Svircev said.
