Ljajic's party wants provincial elections in December

SREMSKA MITROVICA -- Leader of the SDPS Rasim Ljajic says the party, a member of the ruling coalition, wants provincial elections in Vojvodina to be held in December.

According to Ljajic, who is also a cabinet minister, "this would be the only solution to a serious political crisis in Vojvodina."

"There is a serious crisis of legitimacy of the provincial government here in Vojvodina, because the facts are that the authorities are more concerned with themselves and how to preserve the majority in the parliament," Ljajic said late on Wednesday.

At a meeting of the SDPS's Srem district committee, also attended by Vice-President of the Serb Progressive Party Igor Mirovic and President of the Movement of Socialists Aleksandar Vulin, Ljajic said that his party is launching a campaign for the upcoming provincial and local elections with a lot of optimism.

The ruling majority in Vojvodina consists of the Democratic Party, the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina and the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians, all of which are opposition in the Serbian parliament.
