Mali: Capital Summit - first step towards closer cooperation
BELGRADE - Capital Summit 2015 is only the first step towards a closer and more efficient regional cooperation, Belgrade Mayor Sinisa Mali said on Thursday.
The summit provided an excellent opportunity for the mayors of some capitals in Central and Southeastern Europe to meet for the first time after 20 years, to share their experiences and discuss the challenges that their cities are facing, he added.
The mayors underlined that capitals are the engines of their countries' progress, and agreed that they should continue to meet regularly, Mali told Tanjug.
"We were divided for too long. It is now the time to be partners and to work together for the benefit of the citizens," the mayor of Belgrade said.
The summit brought together the mayors and businessmen from 13 capitals, who talked about how to improve the quality of life of the 15 million people who live in these cities.
It was an opportunity for Belgrade officials to see the impressive project and investment presentations from Vienna, Skopje, Zagreb, Budapest, Sarajevo, and to showcase the potential of Belgrade and projects such as Belgrade Waterfront, said Mali.
The next summit will be hosted by the capital of Croatia, Zagreb, while Slovenian capital Ljubljana will organize the conference in 2017.
