Tennis-Tipsarevic defeated by Simon in Bucharest

BUCHAREST - Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic did not make it through to the quarterfinals of the ATP tournament in Bucharest, after losing to Frenchman Gilles Simon 7-5, 6-4 on Thursday.

The opponents were roughly equal throughout the first set, but Simon broke Tipsarevic in the 11th game and then won the set on his serve.

Tipsarevic came back with more vigor to take a 4-1 lead in the second but Simon won the following five games to take the match.

The French will next face Spain's Daniel Gimeno-Traver, who beat Nikola Metkic of Croatia 7-5, 6-2.

The total prize money for the tournament for the 2015 Bucharest Open is EUR 440,000.
