Serbs to return to Kosovo assembly, government

PRISTINA -- Following two months of absence representatives of the Serb (Srpska) List list decided on Thursday to return to Kosovo's assembly and government.

This happened as they "received assurances in discussions with coalition partners that the most significant points of the coalition agreement will be respected."

One of the main reasons behind the return of the Serb representatives to the Kosovo assembly and government is an agreement under which there will be no unilateral moves by coalition partners, especially as regards privatization in majority Serb communities, the Serb List said in a statement.

Particular emphasis in future work will be placed on improving the economic situation in majority Serb communities, the statement said.

The representatives of the Serb List also agreed with the coalition partners that particular attention will be devoted to the process of the return of Serbs and to increasing their presence in institutions pursuant to regulations currently in place.

Inter-ministerial groups will be set up to deal with these issues more efficiently, and it was also agreed that the selection of Serb officials at all levels will be under the sole authority of elected Serb political representatives, the statement said.
