Officer killed, two more wounded in Zvornik attack

ZVORNIK - One police officer was killed and two others were wounded late Monday around 7 p.m. when a gunman broke into a police station in Zvornik, a town in Republika Srpska near the Serbian border, Spokesman of the Republika Srpska Interior Ministry Milan Salamadija said.

The attacker shouting "Allahu Akbar" (God is greatest) was shot dead during the attack, Salamadija said.

Republika Srpska Interior Minister Dragan Lukac qualified the incident as a terrorist attack.

The gunman who attacked a police station in the town of Zvornik on Monday evening, killed one officer and was shot dead himself, has been identified as 24-year-old Nerdin Ibric, Republika Srpska Interior Minister Dragan Lukac said.

Ibric broke into the police station in Zvornik, Republika Srpska, eastern Bosnia-Herzegovina, around 7 p.m. on Monday, and opened fire on the personnel. He killed one officer and wounded two more, klix.ba news portal reported.

Ibric himself was shot dead in an exchange of fire with the police.

Lukac said an investigation has showed that Ibric knew when police officers were changing shifts, which he used to carry out the attack.

BELGRADE - Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic condemned the attack on a police station in Zvornik in which one officer was shot dead and two others were wounded, and announced that Serbia will help Republika Srpska (RS) based on the Dayton Agreement and not compromising anyone's integrity.

The attack on the Zvornik police station in Republika Srpska, eastern Bosnia-Herzegovina, is terrible news both for RS and Serbia, Vucic told the state broadcaster Radio and Television of Serbia.
