Senate: Two candidates in the race for head of ICR: Radu Boroianu and Iulian Tanase

The Senate Speaker, Calin Popescu Tariceanu, on Tuesday announced two persons have already submitted their candidacies for becoming the next Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) head, namely Radu Boroianu, from the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and Iulian Tanase, from the National Liberal Party (PNL).

"Nominations are already here for the next head of ICR: Radu Boroianu, from the PSD, and Iulian Tanase, from the PNL, the latter having worked including with the Radio Guerrila station," Tariceanu said on Tuesday after the meeting of the Standing Bureau of the Senate.

He specified that the Standing Bureau took notice of the resignation of the former head of the Institute, Lilian Zamfiroiu, following to submit it further to the Senate plenum.

The Cultural Committee and the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Senate will be the ones to hear the candidates for the head of ICR. However, the new president of the Institute will also need to be validated by the Senate plenum, following a voting session.

On their Tuesday agenda, the two abovementioned committees have the hearings of the candidates for the top job at ICR and also the hearings of other candidates for head and deputy head of other Romanian cultural institutes from abroad.
