Willie Nelson smoked a joint in the White House

Country singer Willie Nelson, known for his melodies and his long ponytails told the story of how he was able to smoke a joint in the White House, back in 1977.

 

Two days after his release in the Bahamas, where he was arrested for smoking pot, current US President Jimmy Carter invited him to dine at the White House.

 

Carter wanted to thank him for the support Nelson gave him during the 1976 presidential elections.

 

A White House official, as Willie called it, invited him to check out the roof and admire the view. That person, whom Willie will not reveal, produced a joint.  And thus the story unfolded.
