National leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Prime Minister Victor Ponta told the opening on Thursday of a convention of the PSD National Executive Committee that the party's parliamentary majority works and the Opposition National Liberal Party (PNL) will not be able to take over power from PSD, and should the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) "oust" PSD, "that's it, the party resists under any circumstances'.

"Very many of our colleagues have had to put up with suffering because of their mistakes, some rightfully so, and I mean here some who have more recently emerged in the public opinion, while others wrongfully so. Yet, the important thing is that no matter how many of us are no longer at this table, our party still holds 40 per cent of the seats and it will win the local as well as the general elections. I hope that if we win them, we will also do our job. (...) We are counting on people and we will win the elections once again. I can assure you that this government will be doing its job. PNL cannot oust us in Parliament. If DNA succeeds, that's it. Our party resists under any circumstances, our parliamentary majority is working and I am convinced we will still be the first in 2016 as well," said Ponta.

He added that there have been few governments in Romania to have met 90 per cent of their electoral commitments and promises, perhaps with the exception of the PSD government in 2000-2004. AGERPRES
