BELGRADE -- The cabinet of the Serbian president on Friday denied that Tomislav Nikolic told Interfax it would be "impossible" to build Turkish Stream in Serbia.

A statement added that Nikolic "in fact said that Serbia would have higher costs while realizing Turkish Stream, that the project could secure the country's energy stability, but not bring profits like South Stream could have done."

"The headlines in some domestic media took President Nikolic's statement about the Turkish Stream pipeline out of context," the president's cabinet said.

"It is clear by reviewing the integral statement that the president did not say the project would not happen, but that the gas pipeline could provide us with energy stability, and that, unlike the profit that Serbia would have had from the South Stream project, Turkish Stream would bring higher costs," the statement said.
