PM Ponta, US Deputy Secretary of Commerce Andrews agree on cybersecurity work group

Prime Minister Victor Ponta received on Monday United States Deputy Secretary of Commerce Bruce Andrews at the Victoria Palace on Monday, in the context of the mission of commercial promotion and of the Bucharest cybersecurity Summit. The Government's Press Bureau announced after the meeting that the two officials agreed on organizing a work group for cybersecurity within the structures of the Romania - USA Strategic Partnership.

The prime minister thanked the American officials for their support to the organization of the regional event on the cybersecurity and to Romania's efforts in this field, including by the opening of the Centre for Innovation in Cybersecurity; he stressed the importance of this project as a contribution to the building of a regional network for combating the cyber-attacks. The dedicated work group should enhance the bilateral cooperation in this sector, the release to AGERPRES adds.

Ponta reasserted the government's commitment to the guarantee of a "transparent and predictable" business environment.

According to the aforementioned document, the American official hailed the Romanian government's progress in the implementation of the action plan for good governance in the economy agreed with the US Secretary of Commerce; the second phase of this process was recently approved. They also pointed out that the initiative could be a model for other states in the region.

Ponta insisted on the importance of collaboration for the enhancement of the economic side of the strategic partner, including in areas like the energy, IT and cybersecurity.
