Merkel: Stereotypes of lazy Greek; stingy German incorrect

German Chancellor Angela Merkel weighed in, convincingly in fact, on Tuesday against stereotypes in Europe, speaking at a high school in Berlin where many of the students are from an immigrant background, particularly Turks.
“Namely, one suddenly saying ‘Oh, the Bulgarians, the Greeks, we know what they’re like’,” she said, adding: “We can’t ever say that.”
The visit was part of European Union Day, begun by Merkel nine years ago to raise awareness amongst the country’s youth.
“If I start now to say, ‘The Greeks are not so hard-working, and the Germans, they of course are hardworking, on the other hand they are tight-fisted’… neither are correct,” she stressed.
