Mountain Huntsmen Battalion from Curtea de Arges celebrate Heroes Day in Afghanistan

The Mountain Huntsmen Battalion from Curtea de Arges, currently deployed at the Kandahar Military Base in Afghanistan, on Thursday organised a military ceremony dedicated to the Heroes Day.

"During the ceremony, they paid homage to the five heroes of the Battalion, second lieutenants (posthumous) Aurel Marcu, Florin Badiceanu, Valerica Leu, Dan Ciobotaru and Paul Caracuda, who lost their lives in mission in the operation theatre in Afghanistan, following which a religious service was held by the chaplain of the Infantry Battalion that is currently protecting the Kandahar Airfield [KAF]", showed a release sent to AGERPRES by the liaison officer of the 33rd Posada Mountain Huntsmen Battalion, Captain Ovidiu Ciobanu.

According to the same source, attending the event were Colonel Victor Moldoveanu, the Commander of the National Support Element, Colonel Alexandru Alexandroaia, as well as the Commander of the Infantry Battalion protecting KAF, Lieutenant Colonel Florin-Corneliu Soltuz.

"After the ceremony, the participants also tapped red eggs, as according to traditions in Romania on the Ascension Day," the release also said.

The troops from Curtea de Arges, in March, carried out the inter-operationalization with the US 2-327th No Slack Battalion, creating thus the Combined Task Force "No Slack-Posada" structure, with its main mission to secure the Kandahar region in Afghanistan. In mid-March, the 33rd Posada Mountain Huntsmen Battalion reached the initial level of operational capability, while starting with the first ten-day period of April it ensures the entire protection of the Kandahar Military Base and the surrounding area.
