ForMin Aurescu to pay working visit to Council of Europe

Romania's Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu will be paying a working visit to the Council of Europe's (CoE) headquarters in Strasbourg, May 27-28.

Romania's Foreign Ministry (MAE) reports in a press release that the agenda of the visit includes meetings with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland; CoE Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muiznieks and Secretary of the Venice Commission Thomas Markert.

'At the meeting with the secretary general of the Council of Europe, Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu will submit a ratification instrument for Protocol 15 to the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms,' MAE reports.

The Romanian chief diplomat is also scheduled to visit the headquarters of the European Court of Human Rights, where he will be welcomed by the court's President, Dean Spielmann.

Part of the visit, Aurescu will attend an International Meeting of Societies for International Law in his capacity as chairman of the Romanian branch of the Association of International Law.

On the side-lines of the conference, Aurescu will play host to an event for the promotion of Romania's imitative for the establishment of an international court against terror. The event will allow the dissemination of initiatives to international law specialists and encourage the involvement of the national international law societies in the reflection process regarding the use of international law in the fight against terror, says MAE.
