Romania Faces EU Penalties Over Law Delay
The European Commission on Thursday said it was referring Romania to the European Court of Justice for failing to to transpose revised EU legislation on end-of-life vehicles into domestic law.
The End-of-Life Vehicles Directive aims to make dismantling and recycling vehicles more environmentally friendly and prohibit the use of certain hazardous substances in vehicles put on the market after July 1, 2003.
"Member states had to adopt the laws necessary to comply with this Directive by 22 August 2013... more than a year and a half after the deadline, the Directive is still not transposed into domestic legislation," the EC press release says, explaining its decision to refer Romania to the EU Court.
