Chairman Tariceanu welcomes Chairman of Irish Lower House Barrett

According to a press statement of the Senate, Tariceanu mentioned the good cooperation ties between Romania and Ireland, including inside the European Union, presenting the efforts deployed by Romania to use up European funds, increase foreign investment at home and improve domestic infrastructure.

Chairman of Romania's Senate Calin Popescu Tariceanu, on Wednesday welcomed visiting Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann, chairman of the lower house of Irish Parliament, Sean Barrett, on an official visit to Romania at the invitation of the Chamber of Deputies.

According to a press statement of the Senate, Tariceanu mentioned the good cooperation ties between Romania and Ireland, including inside the European Union, presenting the efforts deployed by Romania to use up European funds, increase foreign investment at home and improve domestic infrastructure.

Tariceanu also spoke in favour of better cooperation inside the EU, particularly through the prism of the ongoing negotiations over the EU-US Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).

'The Chairman of the Lower House of the Irish Parliament pointed to a special potential of Romania in economic and human capital terms, dwelling on the importance of education to increased competitiveness and performance inside the EU and worldwide,' reads the press release.

Sean Barrett presented the European journey of Ireland, which has managed to switch from an economy mainly based on agriculture and trade with the UK to a country that is economically, financially and culturally well interconnected to the European and international space, since its accession to the EU in 1973.

He also underscored Ireland's development of late especially because of its EU membership.

Also attending the Tariceanu-Barrett meeting were Romanian Senators Biro Rozalia-Ibolya, Octavian Motoc and Constantin Tamaga. AGERPRES
